Extra Life 2016

UPDATE!

It’s done! I played games for 25 hours (the time change was in there) and now I’m off to bed! I believe you can find the various videos on my youtube channel – they’re all just named “Extra Life Game Day” at this point. I’ll probably update that later. My YouTube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/rickreynolds1969. Once there you should find several (?) videos from the 25 hour marathon.

The short version:

I’ll be playing games for 24 hours (again!) on November 5th to benefit Childrens Hospital here in Pittsburgh. You can support my efforts by GOING HERE TO CONTRIBUTE A PLEDGE.

The longer version:

Every year the Extra Life organization has a gaming day where people pledge to play games of any kind (video games, board games, card games, whatever) for a 24 hour period. People can pledge money to support these gaming efforts and the monies collected go to help a local Children’s Hospital.

It’s kinda like a walk-a-thon or other such fund-raiser – you pledge money towards a good cause in a way that also supports the efforts of a friend.

Anyway, I setup my pledge page with the smallest goal possible, because I like having a goal that is attainable. Last year we raised $795 with this event, which was AWESOME! I’m not an overly competitive guy, so I’m not on a crazy campaign to out-do that amount this year or anything (although that would be great), I’m just wanting to do something fun that benefits kids. I’d love it if you would sponsor me by GOING HERE TO CONTRIBUTE A PLEDGE.

Like last year, my gaming “schtick” will be that I’m going to attempt to play nothing but pre-crash video game systems for 24 hours. Nothing NES or later! I’ll be playing on the following systems:

  • Intellivision
  • Atari 2600
  • Odyssey 2
  • Colecovision
  • Atari 5200
  • Atari 7800 (yes, technically this isn’t a pre-crash system, but it was developed pre-crash and definitely has pre-crash hardware inside)
  • Bally Astrocade
  • Vectrex
  • Fairchild Channel F
  • Emerson Arcadia (new this year!)
  • Pong (assuming I can get an opponent)

As soon as I finalize my plans for how to do it, I’ll post a URL here where you can watch my gameplay during the day on November 5th. Last year I used Google to stream the video, but I think something may have changed in their hangouts platform (??). I’ll do some tests and figure out what I can do. Whatever it is, there will be a link here.

Thanks so much!
Rick
