Fall into Reading 2008 Challenge
I am joining in on a reading challenge posted by my friend Katrina over at Callapidder Days. The challenge is to put a list together of titles to read during the fall season, actually follow through and read them, and then post what you’ve learned or what you’ve enjoyed reading during the time (Sept. 22-Dec. 20). So I am taking a deep breath and committing to this challenge.
The list I’ve compiled is all non-fiction. Some of these I’ve read before and I know I should re-read. Some are books I’ve started and never finished. So here goes. (And thanks Katrina for the motivation and the accountability on this. Perhaps this challenge will keep me from wasting time in front of the tv.)
- Shepherding a child’s heart (Tedd Tripp)
- Grace based parenting (Dr. Tim Kimmel)
- Train up a mom (Vollie Sanders)
- Bringing up boys (Dr. James Dobson)
- Spiritual disciplines for the christian life (Donald S. Whitney)
- Each for the other (Bryan Chapell)
- Trusting God (Jerry Bridges)
Looks good, Viv. I’ve read a couple of them (Trusting God — very good!; Grace-Based Parenting — also good; Bringing up Boys — I’m probably due for a re-read.)
I’m always reading fiction, but these challenges are the best way to convince myself to read — and finish! — all the nonfiction I keep accumulating.
Thanks for joining the fun!
Grace based parenting is very, very good!
Happy reading!
I’ve read bringing up boys. The others look good. I’m more into fiction than non fiction, but will ready anything that helps with my “spirited” boy.
Happy Reading!

I LOVE Shepherding a Child’s Heart! Bringing Up Boys is also an excellent book. I facilitated the study at our church in Illinois several years ago.
I have a Jerry Bridge’s book on my list too: Respectable Sins.
Great list!
I just finished Sheparding a Child’s Heart and was extremely enlightened by it. I should add it to my list and read it again just to be able to soak it all in.
I just finished Bring up Boys the last month. I really enjoyed it. I will have to look into Grace based parenting book.
That is a wonderful list.
I loved Bringing Up Boys.
Happy reading!
